The Landscape Learning topics this term is `All About Me and Minibeasts. Our class will go for a trip to Botanic Gardens. The newsletter about it will be sent home tomorrow.
We were so lucky last Friday because there was a bubble machine in our school. We were looking at bubbles. we saw heart shaped bubbles and star shaped bubbles and even snake looking bubbles too. Bubbles went up, up, up high in the sky. We had so much fun!

This term we are learning to write a recount. A recount tells the reader about something that happened.
OUR TRIP TO THE BOTANIC GARDENS
What an exciting trip we had yesterday! We went to the Botanic Gardens and we were learning about mini beasts. We went there by bus. After morning tea we went to the classroom and we were sorting out the bugs. The ones which have wings-go with the wings and the bees go there too. After that we went on the bug hunt.I caught a spider, two ants and a moth. Then we went for a long walk around the gardens.

On the 8th of March we had a family barbeque picnic in our school. The weather was beautiful and children had lots of fun playing games and just running around. Thank you for coming and joining us in fun activities.
What a surprise we got yesterday! We went to Mrs Govender classroom to see all kind of bugs. the teachers used the science trolley and we could see insects on the big screen. Then we all got a container and a magnifying glass to search for bugs in the soil. After that some of us went for a bughunt outside. We had an exciting time!

Last Friday all the Year One children went to the school assembly. First Mrs Govender's class showed a play called "The Ant and the Grasshoppers". Then it was our turn to perform our fire flies dance. I was wearing my butterfly wings.

I wore a dolphin dress for the disco. The theme was "The underwater world". My favorite was the Sponge Bob ed my song. I waved my hands high in the air and jumped up and down. It was awesome!

This term we are studying about SENSES. Every week we have Discovery time and complete 3-4 activities. Last week we made glasses, drew pictures blindfolded, recorded sounds using easi speaks and made beautiful texture pictures. We are so excited about next week discoveries! We are going to make musical instruments, so if you , mums and dads have any spare boxes and containers please send them with your child.
Our class really enjoyed the discovery time. We learnt so much about senses and took an active part in all the activities. Pity , it came to an end and our next LL topic (for the rest of the term) is MATARIKI.
Here are some photos from our discovery time.
Its almost the end of the term 2 and the last week of matariki celebrations. We baked star cookies, made pois , produced beautiful art work inspired by maori legends, designed kites and learnt few maori songs which we sang at our assembly. Enjoy the photos from our celebrations.
We really enjoyed designing our kites and they look beautiful ...so ready to fly in the sky!!!
MY KITE BY YZABELLE
Look at my amazing kite! I drew colorful flowers and hearts. I used crunchy scrunchy paper for the tail and some cellophane to make it pretty. Next I am going to fly my awesome kite. Its going up on the tree.Oh no! But now the cold wind blows it back to me, so i can fly my kite again. This time it flies up very slowly. I hope it will not rain otherwise my kite will lose all the colors and I need to color it with pastels again. I am lucky! The sun is up and birds and clouds can play with my kite up in the sky.
Welcome to Term 3 2013
Hope you all had great holidays and full of energy to continue our journey. I spent a week in New Caledonia and realized that a little knowledge of French language would be very handy, especially when you order your food!! There were few surprises in the menu! The Landscape Learning topics this term are FIRE WISE and BIRDS. We are very excited about the firemen visits on 22nd and 23rd of August. We cant wait to get inside the fire engine and hold the hoses pretending we are putting down the real fire. The spell-a-thon lists will be sent home on Friday the 23rd of August so start looking for sponsors now. There will be no other spelling words to learn rather than the spell-a-thon ones.
We were lucky to be visited by the fire fighters last Thursday and Friday. We talked about how fire starts, not to play with matches and lighters and what to do in case of the fire. We practiced stop , drop and roll and get down, get low and get out. We went inside the fire truck, held the hoses pretending we put down the real fire and watched the fireman Nick getting dressed for the fire. We learnt so much!!! Here are some photos of us during their visits.
In week 2 our class had Art with Mrs Murray. The children produced beautiful peacocks. I bet Mr Jenkin struggled to chose the best!!! Here are some photos of our magical birds.
Our class was very busy last few weeks with spellathon, cross country and bird lady visit from the Whitford bird center. Thank you to all the parents for sponsoring your children to raise money for our school and cheering us during the cross country race.
WELCOME TO TERM 4 2013
